ELSIE Schooner Restoration Project – The Beginning
Why restore our schooners? They are apart of our Maritime soul. (Al Chaddock)
The Nova Scotia Heritage Schooner Rescue Society (NSHSRS), was formed to preserve a unique part of our Maritime heritage. Small wooden schooners have been a traditional sight off the coast of Nova Scotia for decades, however they are quickly becoming extinct.
Elsie, a 36 foot traditional wooden schooner was built in 1967 and is the first schooner the society has acquired.
Elsie was a competitor for many years in the annual Nova Scotia Schooner Association annual regatta, but she has been on dry land for several years now and is subject to deterioration.
This NSLive.tv segment documents the first part of her restoration story and we are looking forward to bringing you more on Elsie as progress on her restoration continues. For more information take a look at the (NSHSRS) webpage.
